Lord Justice Scott Baker, the coroner overseeing the inquest into the death of the Princess in 1997 said bills for the marathon hearing had topped £2.4 million.

The figure comes on top of the reported £3.6 million spent by former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Stevens' Operation Paget investigation into the case. The money does not include costs run up by Mohamed al Fayed, the father of Dodi, also killed in the car crash in Paris. Mr al Fayed is reportedly paying for three separate legal teams at the inquest.
