Amuses and Muses (2)

by Catherine Lim

… Amuses

Said the priest: 'Beware this sinful organ'
I shall not mention it by name
It gives man so much pleasure
But causes much regret and shame!

'Though it's only a small roll of flesh
From it all mischief has sprung
I will now show you this monster!'
And the priest put out his tongue

At death it's back to ashes
Our destiny is clear and set
Since matter is indestructible
We may have immortality yet.

But what if Hitler's particles
Blowing randomly in creation
Get mixed up with other matter
And enter a future generation?

Amuses and Muses (1)

by Catherine Lim

… Amuses

A psychiatrist conducting a test
Drew a picture of a sun;
His patient studied it and said,
'Wow! A couple having fun!'

The psychiatrist then drew a table
And beside it added a chair;
The patient said, 'By golly, look,
They're doing it in mid-air!'

A stick, a circle, a tree, a cat
An apple, a steeple, a door;
The patient saw only sexy stuff
And kept asking for more.

Said the psychiatrist very sternly,
'You are preocuppied with sex;
Your mind's in an unhealthy state,
It's like you are under a hex.'

'Who, me?' protested the patient,
'Hey, Doctor, cease your lectures;
Just tell me who's been drawing
All those lovely dirty pictures?'

Money the root of all evil?
The guy who said that was clueless;
For money is the sixth sense,
Without which the five are useless!

My Mind

by Nadine Kamarwan

You enter a maze and you're instantly lost
A puzzle that can never be solved
Where fantasy and reality mix
Call it "something not broken, that still can be fixed"

With screws, coils and all the gears
A being that grows bigger with years
Something filled to the brim, yet still so vast
With plans for the future and dreams of the past

The worries of the present, wild and untamed
Carefree happiness with rage inflamed
Total chaos with a sense of order
Freakishly insane from border to border

From softened stories to cold, hard truths
Like the filled-up shelves of an empty booth
Like the most common thing you could ever see
To the weirdest things that something could be

Sarcasm, irony, wit and charm
Dangerous but they do no harm
The most peculiar thing you could ever find
That is how I describe my mind

New World

by Winnie Aisha Y.

SMP Labschool Kebayoran

This is the gate to the new world
The sky is crimson red,
It is burning with forty degrees of humanity
This is the scene when
A servant separates from its master.

There, white tents are built.
Famine, plague and wars have become our today
This is the new world you insist it to be.

And there were days when you?
The leaders, the nobleman, the educated and the rich
Had gathered and dressed
With masks and multicoloured eyes
Laughing and dancing around a starving boy
Who awaited his death at a vulture's beak.

Is this the new world you had described?
I only see refugees in their homeland
Falling skyscrapers and starless sky behind a midnight curtain
Where could you be?
Did you fall into the space between the earth and its death?

While, on this wounded earth, from far away
I can hear the rattle of guns and rifles.

We are all brothers
Waging war on humanity.

This is the broken gate of the new world.

of things acquired and lost

by Toshi

written on Monday, 2 March 2009

Indeed, one loathes this to happen
even the angels are displeased

Yet one could clearly sight
that some things are just meant to be

What's written between the lines
say, one could feign not to decipher it

However the oracles have spoken
with this room split open

One does not even have to toil and wander
taking things slowly yet persistently

A full celestial orbit has spoken its truth
the hill could not crumble that easily

Because I still like you

I composed these two stuff today (26 Apr 2008)

Because I just can't forget her...

*sigh*

poem

Perhaps you read this
perhaps you don't
but I want you to know
that I still like you

You may be sloppy
you may be silly
but behind those I see funny
I could find your true beauty

You brighten me up
with your lovely smile
and your casual SMSes
which make my day worthwhile

Because after all this time
you've fallen for another guy
I just want you to know
that I still like you

I'll always be there for you
when you're in doubt
when you're in pain
when you're in confusion

Because even if it should take years
for us to remain "as friends"
I'll wait patiently for you
till you see me in a new light

prose

Yes, I couldn't forget you.
Perhaps you don't know who you are. Of course you don't.

Because I'm doing my best not to show you my true feelings.
Because I know that you still like him.

Because if I declare my infatuation to you...
I'm afraid you'll see me as a pathetic.
A pitiful guy whose love you can't accept,
Because I know you're still over heels for him.

And as such,
I don't want you to stay away from me.

But as written above
in my unedited poem,
I just want you to know

That I'll always be there for you.

Even if we're to remain...
only "as friends"

A Jakarta Life

By Toshihiko Atsuyama
Written on 6 July 2007
Poem title: A Jakarta Life

I hope one day my capital follows Tokyo
Yet I know there’s much to go

Soccer events turn debacle
Houses drowned in 5-year cycle

Condos adjacent to the slums
Demos unheard by the leaders’ hums

Underpass constructions
Monorail delay
Traffic congestions
Stress out my day…

Your Candle Shorter Than Mine

By Toshihiko Atsuyama
Written on Monday, 2 July 2007

I made a wish to God
To turn back time if it’s possible
Putting your candle and mine at equal length
Yet I know that’s not probable

For the clock is immaterial
With its ticks unreturnable

If only we hadn’t met
All these wouldn’t have happened
You see me as a mere friend
Yet I’m hoping to be someone more

The feelings overflowing from my heart are trapped,
Imprisoned within this tiny receptacle

I just can’t bear it anymore,
They’re nagging me every night
Turning me an insomniac

Truly, I can never confess to you
How will the world see the misfits?
Knowing that term “us” will never make it

Your candle shorter than mine
Surely agonizing for both of us
Even if you are to accept

A Very Romantic Poem

These are entries to a Washington Post competition asking for a rhyme with the most romantic first line... but the least romantic second line.

Author unknown

Love may be beautiful, love may be bliss

But I only slept with you, because I was pissed.

I thought that I could love no other

Until, that is, I met your brother.

Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet,

and so are you

But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead,

the sugar bowl's empty and so is your head.

Kind, intelligent, loving and hot;

This describes everything you are not

I love your smile, your face, and your eyes -

Damn, I'm good at telling lies!

My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife:

Marrying you screwed up my life

I see your face when I am dreaming.

That's why I always wake up screaming

My feelings for you no words can tell,

Except for maybe "go to hell"

Poem

Hey... hey.. the Blog I posted before... Damn disgusting, lor. Agree? That photo was manipulated actually, bcoz the real me haven't ever slept "nicely" like that... Much more disgusting. Ugh. Beter for me not to describe it anyway.

Lately, I've been looking at some of my poem collections (made by myself, of course), and in my opinion, they're not really as romantic as I've thought before. Well, I have to tell you the fact that all of my poems were made about one and a half year ago when I..... broke up with my girlfriend (hope she'll never read this blog), and me myself made some of them to express my feelings in a better way. My poems were shown to my friends and all of them opined that I was so romantic, very sophisticated, talented in language, and bla...bla..bla... things like that. It gave me confidence anyway, bcoz by that time I've only wrote about less than 10 poems, and their appraisal made me able to write more. Anyway, when my ex-girlfriend and me became friends again, I showed the poems to her and she only smiled while she was reading them.

That was 1½years ago.

Do you know what do I think of my poems right now? Instead of thinking how romantic I was, I think the poems are too.... Hmm.. How to say it, huh?.. Melancholic. I can't even believe that it was me myself who wrote them all. Different feelings that I have now and before, maybe is the reason why I think like that. Anyway, enough for today.
